My bedroom...

My room is full of the colors brown, teal, and tan/khaki. The furniture is all a deep brown wood, the carpet teal, and the walls are painted two-tone tan and chocolate brown.

Starting clockwise from the door.

A wooden vanity that my oldest sister handed down to me. It is jam packed with jewelry, so jammed packed that I can rarely keep the doors on it shut. Above the vanity is a framed "proclamation to the world" bordered with pictures of temples by some very loved friends for my Christmas present.

My double doored closet. Filled with clothes on hangers and "dedicates" in little canvas totes. One empty wicker basket kept for dirty laundry until Wednesday nights when I wash them all. Totes full of shoes, cosmetology stuff, gifts, and re-gifts. Notepads and files of poetry and boxes of purses waiting to be lined up with my next outfit. Photo albums neatly arranged on both sides of a too large glass jar full of colorful scarves sitting dustily on the lower shelf. Suitcases, full of memorabilia and smaller case full of beads and jewelery tools for my next creations, on the top shelf. Towels folded, rolled and tucked on top for easy convenience, all sorted by size. Some where is half of a dead spider that I killed last week and was too freaked out to look for the remains. I know that it is half-corpsing around somewhere making a home and mutant babies.

My black DVD bookcase. The only black furniture left over from my last bedroom decorating scheme. Only 3 rows separating the towering DVD stacks. Shelves have been removed and stacked behind the bookcase to make room for even more movies. Atop is my perfume box. Made by my sister Lera and filled with all sizes and colors of delicious bottles. Two picture frames; One of my best friend Shannon and a companion that she had in the MTC, and a picture of the late President Hinkley smiling in a gentleman's hat. A mold of my parents tender clasped hands, forever touching and holding each other and probably the most looked at item in my room.

Bare space of wall with a framed picture of my current Roomies, London and her lovely family. Under this is a wooden vase full of spongy willows. A returning gift from my best friends mission.

My small hand-me-down book case that used to hold my dad's shoes. Scuff marks are now covered by often read books. Starting in my Twilight collections (I own two of each, so I can lend one and read the other.), in the middle my Barnes and Noble classics, and ending in my Harry Potter series. Above the case is my first window. The ledge under my window has a picture of me and some old roommates making stupid faces, my two oldest nephews, a Scensty candle warmer, and my mother's jewelry box which is full of beautiful trinkets that were hers and my Granny's.

My dresser, full of electronics, paper, yarn, cleaning supplies, and a ton of CD's. Absolutely no clothes anywhere in these hand painted drawers. Atop is a 32 inch TV that likes to turn off and make freaky noises on it's own accord. Atop the TV is a wooden fish that "swam" here from Thailand. Beside the monster telly is a DVD/VCR combo. Atop with ceramic leaves and candles. on the wall behind the candles is a picture of my family that was taken about 2 1/2 years ago. All of us wearing neutral colors and happy smiles.

The next window and decorated ledge stand on the other side of the dresser. Sitting happily is a pitcher of Orange African Daisies (that I won at a bunco party) and decorative spheres made out of seashells at the base. (which were a thank you gift from Lera.) Near the two textures spheres is a small hand painted Thai dish from Shannon for Christmas. On the other side is a very large sweating glass of ice water with a blue and white striped straw.

Partially under this window ledge is the foot of my bed, where I am currently sitting on a satin teal and brown florished bed comforter. This queen sized bed hits the other wall and connects the room. 600 thread count embroidered egyption sheets lay smoothly over the lip of the comforter. Four pillows, one for my head and three to take up the entire right side when I sleep, are now piled neatly at the top of the bed. Under the bed are totes and boxes of more books, gift wrap, and games.

A wooden nightstand with one drawer and one shelf sits next to my bed. The shelf holds my scriptures and a note pad for random sleepy thoughts about writing. The drawer is full of ear plugs, an empty journal, and old remotes. On top is a small lamp, a candle in a flower pot, and a battery operated alarm clock that is set for 5:53 AM because I hate waking up to even numbers.

On the bare wall after the night stand is a mirror framed in Celtic knotting. Tucked in the crease between the frame and the glass is a sticker, never peeled, that I got from a random geeky girl at a book signing stating "I <3 hot guys with super powers and fangs!!" I don't know why it is still there but it just made me laugh.

Now you are back at the door that you started on, but on this side you can see a permanent marker scribble that was given to me from my "artistic" nephew Trevor.

Memories of Mint

I stole this idea off of another blogger's website. What you do is take a random word and make a list of memories or things that you think of when you hear the word. Today my word choice is Mint.

Mint chocolate chip chocolate ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins. Today was our family's celebration of Lera's birthday and Father's day. We had way too many cakes, all to do with a misunderstanding. London brought an ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins and made cupcakes to make sure that we had enough cake for all of our guests. Betty, brought Father's Day cupcakes. And I brought a Mint chocolate chip cake from Baskin Robbins, thinking that there wouldn't be enough for everyone. Needless to say we had way too much cake.

Sleepy time herbal tea. This tea was a favorite to my Mother and my sister's. This is the perfect tea to use to relax or just to have a moment. I still crave this tea when I have restless nights or when the rain is pouring out side.

Buttermints. I have been in 3 wedding lines by the time I was 21 years old. Those are just the lines, not actual weddings of close friends or family. Specializing in wedding updo's does not help me in not attending weddings. Buttermints are a disgusting demon that lurk around weddings waiting to spring their ominous plague on the singletons. They are cursed. Once you have had the cheap greasy melting taste of them linger in your mouth in 3 wedding lines you are cursed too.

ABBA mint shampoo. My first roommate went to Cosmetology College with me and we decided we liked hanging out so much, that we would become roomies. Sadly time moves on and life goes on. I've had a few roomies since her but I will always remember her love and support to me over the years. She is a wonderful friend, and when she washes your hair, gives the best scalp massage on the planet.

Andes Mints. These were a popular gift for my Mother growing up. With not having a job and these being .99 cent boxes of bliss these were the perfect presents for Mother's day, birthday's, and Christmas. I remember when I was 12 I walked to our neighborhood Shopko, and bought a Delicious box for myself. I opened it up and found that I won a sweepstakes vacations trip for 4 to the Andes. I read that you had to be 18 or older to redeem the prize. Stupid and juvenile I threw the box in Shopko's outside dumpster on the way home. I told my Mom about what happened and she had me looking in the dumpster during the next hour to no avail of finding my prize. Ever since that day, Andes do not taste as good as they used to...

Cinna-mint toothpaste. I love cinnamon flavored candy. When the geniuses at crest and Aquafresh came out with cinna-mint, orange-mint, and kissme-mint toothpaste, I was beyond joy. They put a beautiful spin on a classic. I thank them at least twice a day for their fresh and clean ideas.

Peppermint ice cream from Leatherbys. This was my Mother's favorite ice cream flavor. She loved dipping this in Leatherbys hot fudge and would ask/tell us to not forget to pick her up a pint whenever we would go out to that restaurant.

Mint chocolate chip ice cream. My favorite character, from the book The Host, Ian O'Shea's favorite snack.

Mint Chapstick. I am a chapstick-aholic. My favorite thing to do with my chapstick, is peel off the label so you have a smooth white tube, stating "I am not an ordinary chapstick, I am Rie's chapstick". I remember sneaking in my Dads coin bowl and digging for the moist and tasty chapstick to apply generously to my perfectly smooth lips. I also remember asking my Mother to look into her brown overly large strapped "Mary Poppin's" purse during sacrament and having her pull out a smaller white with old lady flowers sowing purse. I would listen to the gentle snagging snaps the zipper would make as I would wait for the chapstick to be passed down the row of sisters to get to me.

They're going to the meadow!!!!

I was having a bad day at work and I gave my co-worker the I'm going to smash this computer with my face look. She wisely and quickly stood up, holding our favorite book and cooed, "They are going to meadow." Right then, I was aware that those 5 words were making my check bones burn. I was smiling. Big. If you are a Twilight fan, you are probably smiling right now too. If you are not a fan, here is an excerpt of Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, chapter 13, Confessions;

He raised his free hand and placed it gently on the side of my neck. I sat very still, the chill of his touch a natural warning- a warning telling me to be terrified. But there was no feeling of fear in me. There were, however, other feelings...
"You see," he said. "Perfectly fine."
My blood was racing, and I wished I could slow it, sensing that this must make everything so much more difficult- the thudding of my pulse in my veins. Surely he could hear it.
"The blush on your cheeks is lovely," he murmured. He gently freed his other hand. My hands feel into my lap. Softly he brushed my cheek, then held my face between his marble hands.
"Be very still," he whispered, as if I wasn't already frozen.
Slowly, never moving his eyes from mine, he leaned toward me. Then abruptly, but very gently, he rested his cold cheek against the hollow at the base of my throat. I was quite unable to move, even if I'd wanted to. I listed to the sound of his even breathing, watching the sun and the wind play in this bronze hair, more human than any other part of him.
With deliberate slowness, his hands slid down the sides of my neck. I shivered, and I heard him catch his breath. But his hands didn't pause as they softly moved to my shoulders, and then stopped.
His face drifted to the side, his nose skimming across my collarbone. He came to rest with the side of his face pressed tenderly against my chest.
Listening to my heart.

Are you smiling?

2 ear infections & Strep throat

I have never had strep throat in my life. I'm what the annoyed and envious call a "carrier monkey". When I went to the doctor's office yesterday, for not being able to breathe rightly through the night, I was unsurprised that the nasty gag you with a Q-tip, Strep test came back negative. My doctor however disagreed with my reaction and advised me that I still might have Strep.

Doc: Well the test came back negative.

Me: So I don't have Strep?

Doc: The test states that you don't, but that doesn't mean that you don't have Strep.

Me: *blink

Doc: If the test comes back positive than you definitely have Strep throat. But if it comes back negative, you could still have it.

Me: *blink, blink

Doc: I'm going to prescribe you something to help you fight this off.

Me: Fight off the Strep?

Doc: Yes, it will help with that too.

Me: *blink, stare at him confused.

Doc: You also have ear infections.

Me: In addition to the Strep?

Doc: Well it might be Strep, but we don't know.

Me: *Blink.
